Billing Representative - Van Transportation (P/T, 20 Hours/Week)

Position Summary

The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay brings help, hope and healing to people facing serious life challenges or trauma resulting from sexual assault or abuse, domestic violence, financial distress, substance abuse, medical emergency, suicidal thoughts, emotional or situational problems. The Van Transportation Billing Representative’s primary responsibility is to assist with the billing and collection process for TransCare van & paratransit transports. This position reports to the Manager of Billing Services and in his or her absence the Senior Director of Reimbursement.      

Strategic/Transformational Duties and Responsibilities

  • To utilize billing experience to accurately code and bill for services rendered by TransCare Medical Transportation Services, which assists in funding of Crisis Center programs.

Transactional/Administrative Duties and Responsibilities

  • Verify all patient demographic information.
  • Determine appropriate payer source and accurately code charges.
  • Follow-up on late reimbursements.
  • Assist in gathering data for statistical reports.
  • Assist in maintaining the proper security and storage of client records.
  • Know and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Know and comply with Policies and Procedures of the Agency.
  • Input data from van trip sheets & verify appropriate paperwork is present & complete.  Obtain additional information to complete file, if necessary.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • One (1) year of billing and/or data entry experience.  
  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Minimum typing speed of 45 computer wpm. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of verbal and written communications.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, faxing and scanning.
  • Ability to prepare correspondence.
  • Ability to understand and apply policies and procedures.
  • Ability to type 45 cwpm.
  • Ability to insure timely completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Skill in the operation of a variety of computer software.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Physical Requirement: Must have ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This position performs duties of above average difficulty requiring reasonable initiative and independent judgment under limited supervision.

Working Conditions: Duties are performed in an office setting. The noise level is moderate.

Travel: None.

Hours: Monday-Friday with varied hours as need for department.
